Petrovic joined Chelsea from New England Revolution in 2023, but has failed to establish himself at the club.
He was loaned to Strasbourg last season, where he kept 10 clean sheets. And played a key role as the French side finished seventh in Ligue 1.
His performances have drawn attention from several clubs, but Sunderland are close to winning the race.
